Mesa de Maya Southwest Oak™ has large blue-gray leaves which hold their color late into autumn. The foliage lacks most prickles and the tree, reaching 25 feet in height at maturity, will be a stunning contrast to most background colors. The smaller stature of ‘Toll Gate Canyon’, to 20', makes this tree applicable for nearly all spaces and landscapes in the Western US and SW Canada. It is grafted onto a highly adapted root stock which tolerates dry and alkaline soils, making it broadly adaptable to all western soils.

With small, startlingly blue tinted foliage and modest stature, features not previously available commercially in an oak, Dolores River Southwest Heritage Oak™ is very desirable. The autumn change from blue to red-mahogany comes very late, November or December. A hybrid of curious parentage, sieboldii x tripetala, found at Kew in the 40's. Its upward facing, white flowers of pleasant fragrance are borne in May and June with the large foliage.

Its color is a attractive crystalline red-purple that almost has a metallic sheen. The growth habit is an upright small tree with a columnar to pyramidal habit. For the milder parts of the country this evergreen dogwood is a real show stopper. The foliage is deep green and contrast very well with the large, rounded, overlapping white bracts which nearly obscure the foliage. Easily trained to very nice tree form. Fine with strong winds and not bothered by pests.

A phenomenal new development in redbuds with fully double, bright pink flowers more reminiscent of a flowering cherry than anything you know as a redbud. Truly remarkable. Long blooming and sterile. In other regards growth and habit are as you expect.

Cameo is a sister seedling to Cleopatra and is the latest release from the New Zealand Magnolia Grove breeding program of Vance Hooper. A stunning bloom with a sculpted form like a cameo broach. Reddish purple exterior with clean white flushed red-purple interior. Cameo has exceptional flower power, second only to Genie for freeness of flowering. The high rate of flower production both in spring and summer keeps the plant as a small tree with a compact habit.

Tinker Belle is a really beautiful Magnolia and we expect it to be in big demand. Fast growing it blooms well on young plants in the nursery. The buds open to numerous dark magenta, 3" upright flowers with pale pink interiors and a very sweet fragrance. Small in stature it will make an excellent specimen for smaller gardens, container culture or a shrubby boarder. The plants set buds readily in the nursery and the color and fragrance are unique attracting a lot of interest in the garden center. In Europe it is sought after for cut flower production.

The small, prickly, holly-like leaves of 'Coconino' are silver-gray; the tree is hardy and fully evergreen in Zone 5B and below. At maturity, the grafted tree should be about 20 feet tall. The silver-gray leaves and the black fissured bark of 'Coconino' make it a striking subject as either a specimen planting or in a group. It is very representative of the mixed oak/pine forests of the upper Southwest, a lovely reminder of hikes and camping trips on the Mogollon Rim in northern Arizona. Will do well across the West because of its region-adapted rootstock which is tolerant to high pH soils and arid conditions.

Released six years ago, Jefferson has very high EFB resistance and is well suited for in-shell market. It should be planted as a replacement for old EFB susceptible Barcelona orchards.

In addition to complete Eastern Filbert Blight resistance, Dorris has smaller tree stature. The kernels have very high quality and great flavor. They will demand a higher price. These desirable traits and those of its pollinizers York and Felix, illuminate the future of the industry.

A late season pollinator with very high levels of resistance to EFB, it has low nut yields though they are suitable for in-shell market.

The newest release from OSU, McDonald does get some EFB infection under high pressure, though it has the resistance gene. It is small nut for the kernel market. The tree is smaller than Jefferson.

One of the newest releases, Wepster is a small-kernelled hazelnut for the confection market. This is a big deal for Oregon. It has a high level of resistance to EFB

Maturing 10-15 days ahead of Barcelona, Yamhill has complete resistance to EFB. Its nuts, best suited for kernel market, are smaller but harvests exceed Barcelona.

Shawn Mehlenbacher reports, "a high level of quantitative resistance to EFB, similar to ‘ Tonda di Giffoni," thought it isn't totally resistant. It too is 10-15 days earlier than Barcelona and has smaller nuts with a higher yield.
