Curvpod yellowcress is found throughout the west in a variety of wet habitats. In our prairie habitats, it is found with other annuals in areas with low cover of other vegetation such as vernal pools. In mild winters, it can act as a biennial.

A weeping Baldcypress selection that distinguishes itself by its leader growing straight up while the branches droop. Fall color is bronze, and the reddish brown bark peels in strips. Tolerates both wet and dry conditions. Much superior to 'Cascade Falls' because it has an upright tendency as opposed to the groundcover character of the former.

Native to upper elevations in the Davis Mountains of West Texas, this evergreen oak is widely adapted, forming shrubs where conditions are harsh - or a 40 ft. tree where more favorable. Deep dark green leaves are backed by white. Under-utilized, this tree is adapted to grow throughout much of the mild West.

Willow dock is native to many moist habitats throughout the west. Its habitat value in our native western Oregon prairies is not as a pollinator plant (it is wind-pollinated) but as a larval host-plant for butterflies such as the rare Great Copper. Restoration efforts are underway in the Willamette Valley to restore populations by providing both the nectar source, Grindelia integrifolia (gumweed), and the host-plant willow dock.

These are seedlings from Winter Gold but they don't have the bright yellow stems, rather they have intensely pink and red stems, like Erythocladum.

Common fiddleneck is found in both wet and dry prairies and has bristly hairs on the foliage. The large, elongating flower stems are bright orange and curl at the ends (like the head of a fiddle). The seed is a favorite food on our native goldfinches. It does best in disturbed habitats and areas of low competition.

This small, decumbent native annual is found in the vernal wet areas. It has bright blue flowers and blooms early-summer most often with other annuals such as popcorn flower and monkey flower.

For the milder parts of the country this evergreen dogwood is a real show stopper. The foliage is deep green and contrast very well with the large, rounded, overlapping white bracts which nearly obscure the foliage. Easily trained to very nice tree form. Fine with strong winds and not bothered by pests.
